The material requirements report adds up what every open job card still needs and sets it against stock on hand and stock already on order. Raise purchase requests for what's short and turn them into purchase orders. If you want, Vali stops a job starting until the stock is there.
Job costing
Job costing: planned against actual on every job
Each job card starts with a planned cost from the bill of materials. As materials are issued and time is logged, the actual cost builds up next to it, with the difference shown.
When the job is completed, the finished product goes into stock at what it actually cost to make, so your stock value is real too.
Bills of materials: quote from what it really costs to make
List the materials and the labour for each step of your process flow. Vali prices the materials from what your stock actually cost and adds the labour, so the cost per unit is one you can quote from.

A cost calculator built for what you make. For a cold room: enter the length, width and height, say whether the floor is insulated and how many doors, and Vali works out every panel, trim, tube of sealant, unit and labour hour, at your own stock prices, with a waste allowance on each line.
One click puts the whole list on the bill of materials. We build the calculator around how you cost your product; from then on your staff use it as often as they like.
Job card tracking from the sales order to the finished product
Make the job card from the sales order. Issue materials by hand, or automatically when the job starts or finishes, and undo an issue if it was wrong.
What is being made, for which sales order, its status, priority, start date and planned cost.
A custom job without a bill of materials: list its own materials, and save it as a new bill of materials if you make it again.
If the bill of materials changes after a job card was made, the job card warns you and can be refreshed from it.
Labour and quality
Labour time and quality checks on every step
Each step of the job is started, paused and completed, and the time is logged against the person who did it, at their own hourly rate. Two people on one step are both costed.
Record a quality check on each step as pass, fail or rework. A failed check stops the job from being completed.
Sales orders, production and invoices in one place
The sales order shows its job card and how much has been made, with the button to invoice it next to it. The same customers, products, stock and suppliers run from the first quote to the final invoice.

Common questions
Does it handle one-off custom jobs?
Yes. Make a job card without a bill of materials, list its own materials, and save it as a new bill of materials if you make it again.
How do I get a cost calculator for my product?
Press Request a calculator on a bill of materials and tell us how you cost the product. We build the calculator and install it on your company, and your staff use it from then on. Quantities come out exactly as calculated, so a tube of sealant can show as 7.8; round up when you order.
Can it track batch and serial numbers on what we make?
Yes. Finished goods can carry batch or serial numbers, as well as the stock you buy in.
Can a product be made from sub-assemblies?
Yes, one level deep: a bill of materials can include another product you make.
How do we plan production?
Each job card has a planned start date, end date and priority, and the job card list shows what is being made and when. Vali has no drag-and-drop schedule board.
Can I print job cards for the floor?
Yes. Every job card prints as a PDF with barcodes.
Does production post to the general ledger automatically?
Stock moves automatically: materials out of stock as they are issued, and the finished product into stock at its actual cost. Work-in-progress and cost-of-sales journals are posted by your accountant.
Who logs the time on the floor?
Time is logged on each step of the job card, against the person who did the work. Usually a supervisor does this for the team.
Is there a limit on users?
No. One price for the company, however many people use it.
Do I need separate accounting software?
No. Vali Business includes the full accounting: invoicing, debtors and creditors, bank reconciliation and VAT201.
